FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

For your convenience you will find a list of compiled questions below that photography clients have asked over the years. If you have other questions feel free to contact Kayla directly via email.

Q.  What rights do I have to the digital images?

A.  You have the right to reprint images whenever you want. However, you may not sell your images for profit or publish your images without the written consent of Kayla Jones Photography. You will get a print release with your digital images so you can print at your choice of printers.

Q.  What is photo re-touching?

A.   This is a hard subject to explain, photographers and artists have this down to science and use their creative eye to enhance an image how they see fit. It can mean increasing contrast, adjusting the white balance, changing color hues, removing pimples, slimming down unattractive body parts, opening closed eyes, erasing debris or distracting backgrounds, adding special effects like vignettes, etc. The possibilities are endless, and every single image requires something different. Be rest assured I will do my best to give you the best possible portrait.

Q.  What is your photography style?

A.  I am an on location, natural light photographer. We will choose a beautiful Charleston location for your session, depending on the type of "theme" you are after. For example if you want a park setting then we will choose a convenient and gorgeous park in Charleston to use as our backdrop. I like to capture both posed and "in motion" portraits. Meaning I will pose your children for a few shots and then let them play or interact with each other to capture those in the moment shots.

Q.  What are newborn session like?

A.  This is a special time in your life, and babies grow so fast! Allow me to capture the sweet little features of your baby before they aren't so little any longer  I love photos that tell a story, and I generally don’t use a lot of props. I will bring with me a few key essentials to pose your baby. My preferred look is simple, natural, and centered around your baby and family. Sessions can last between 1 to 2 hours depending on your baby's needs.  I allow lots of time for feeding, calming, and changing diapers, and I'm also happy to provide help with wardrobe questions as I know from personal experience that it's tricky to dress yourself in those first few weeks of postpartum life. We can certainly add in siblings and family portraits as well.

The ideal time to photograph newborns is about 7-10 days after birth. (If your baby is older than this, don't worry! We can still get great photos.) I typically book newborn sessions in the second or third trimester and schedule the exact time and date once baby is home from the hospital. If your baby has infant acne don't worry about it. My newborn sessions include advanced skin retouching as needed.

Q.  When should I book a maternity session?

A. The ideal time to book a maternity session is in your third trimester when you have a beautiful round belly, but before you are miserable. I have been in your shoes, and it is not fun walking around those last few weeks. I would say that 32-35 weeks is a great time to schedule a session. Again, I know what it's like to be pregnant so we can work around when you are feeling your best.

Q.  What happens after the photo session?

A. After your photo session I look through your images and hand select the best ones, from there I fully re-touch the images. I will adjust the lighting, look at skin re-touching where needed and do what I feel is best to give you the best possible portrait. From the editing phase I upload your images to a password protected online gallery where I will share with you so you can view and download your images. Your can even share your password with your family members so they can purchase prints if they so wish. My turn around time on releasing your online gallery is 2 weeks.

Q.  What should I wear for our family portrait session, and can I have wardrobe changes?

A. This is a question that I get asked all the time. In fact I get asked this question so much that I created a video on the subject. Check out my video HERE. The most important thing to remember is that you don't want to be matchy matchy but look coordinated and put together. My rule when I am doing my family's portraits is that I find an outfit first, because chasing the right dress for myself can sometimes be tricky. Once I get that figured out I choose outfits for my boys, then my husband last because he is laid back and will go with the flow. When you have an idea what you may want to wear lay everyone's outfits on the bed, include your accessories as well. Now you can see how it flows together. Choose a couple of coordinating colors and I personally think that navy is a timeless color that looks good on everyone. If you need to bounce an idea off me feel free to, text me a picture and I will give you my thoughts for your session.

ou can certainly have wardrobe changes, but keep in mind we are on-location so there may not be a convenient place to change. And our session time is one hour. If you are comfortable with all of that then so am I.

Q.  How many digital images will I get?

A. With your $350 photography fee you get all inclusive pricing where you will receive at least 50, high resolution digital files where you can download directly from your online gallery. I turn some photos black and white because I feel like black and white images best capture that nostalgic feeling. However most of your images will be color.  You also have the option to buy additional prints straight from your gallery and have them shipped directly to you.

Q.  Do you do mini sessions?

A. YES! But only twice a year, sometimes more if I'm feeling in the mood or have the time. Mini sessions are a hot commodity and book up fast. So I would highly suggest that you get on my mailing list to receive notification on the next upcoming mini session. I usually do a spring and fall mini session. The fall minis are perfect for those of you who want just a couple of images to use in Christmas cards or last minute gift ideas. Mini sessions are at a set location and usually in 30 minute increments. Sign up to be on the mailing list HERE.

Q.  What is your policy on rescheduling?

A. Life happens and sometimes Mother Nature isn't always kind to us. I am a mother, so I know how hectic your schedule can be. If you are not able to make your scheduled session date please let me know as soon as possible to reschedule. But please note, deposits are non-refundable, so it is best to contact me asap to reschedule your session. If Mother Nature steps in the way, we will certainly find a different date that works for both parties. I highly suggest when booking consider a rain date for this reason.

Q.  Do you require a deposit, and what type of payment do you accept?

A. I require a small retainer fee of $50 for your lifestyle session. For the remainder of your session fee you will be required to pay at the time of you session. I accept cash, check or credit card.

Q.  Is there a discount if I book both my maternity and newborn session with you?

A. Absolutely! Shoot me a message and we can chat about this.

Q.  Do you have a referral program?

A. Yes! My best form of advertising is word of mouth. If you tell your friends and family about Kayla Jones Photography and they let me know that you are the one that referred them to me, after the completion of their session you will get a $25 credit to use towards your next lifestyle portrait session. So remember to tell them to mention your name!
